201 Type stainless steel sheet is an austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel that was developed originally to conserve nickel. 201 stainless steel sheet is a stronger stainless alloy than T304 due to a compound that includes half the nickel and increased manganese and nitrogen.This alloy is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, but becomes magnetic when cold worked. HEAT TREATMENT OF 201 STAINLESS STEEL SHEET

The annealing temperature for Type 201 is between 1850-2000°F. then water quench or rapidly air cool. The annealing temperature should be kept as low as possible, consistent with the desired properties, because Type 201 tends to scale more than Type 301. It is necessary to keep the carbides in solution and prevent sensitization. Type 201 is not hardenable by thermal treatment; it is only hardenable by cold working
